Five for Friday- Earth Week!

Happy Friday!  I had a great week so I am looking forward to linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday to share!

This week we celebrated Earth day with our Earth Day Rotations! All of our kinders rotated through all 8 classrooms over 2 1/2 days, doing different activities in each room.  Here are some of the activities that my kids brought back:

Top: I will go green! I will recycle.  Bottom: I will go green! I will go to the library.

EVERYONE wrote I take of the Earth because I love the Earth.  But the one on the right side wrote a heart instead of love- so cute!.

In my room, we watched the Reduce Reuse Recycle video on Brain Pop Jr (yes- I watched it 8 times and know it by heart now!!).  Then we made a class poster with ways to take care of the Earth and added our hand prints in the middle- Thank you to The First Grade Parade for this idea!!

We also made another hand print and colored a small Earth to go in the middle- Thank you to my brain for this idea!! I threw it together at the last minute and it was SOOOO cute!

To finish off the celebration, we made Planet Protector hats from Creating a Thoughtful Classroom.  Here are the kids showing off their planet protector muscles!!

So then I had to get back to actually teaching (UGH!) on Thursday and I had no plans for math SO I through together a quick geometric shape lesson, which was wonderful!!  We ended the lesson by working in groups to build something with geometric shapes.  Okay, so they aren't all real shapes, BUT it was great and fun!

These guys worked SO long on getting that bridge type piece to actually sit up top there! What determination!

So today we finished our quick geometric shape lesson by creating shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows!  They LOVED it and so did I!

I hope you had a great week!  If you stop by I would LOVE to hear from you :-) I LOVE reading comments! Have a wonderful weekend and jump back over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday!

  1. Wow, you did a lot of things for Earth Day, how fun for everyone!! And as far as your math lesson, sometimes the best lessons are the ones off the cuff!
    Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Awesome Earth Day stuff!

I'm going to do the toothpick shapes with my kids next week. Did you let them eat the marshmallows when they were done? I'm pretty sure I'll need to promise them that reward to convince them not to eat while we are making shapes!

    1. No, I didn't let them eat them :-( But I snuck some myself!! I have some food allergies and didn't want to chance anything. They were bummed but still did an amazing job! They loved building with them.
