Five for Friday- School Saved Me This Week

Happy Friday!  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday to share all the things we did that kept me happy and calm amidst my grad school STRESS!
This week brought tally marks in math.  I love tally marks for some reason.  I don't know why and can't explain it... I just do :-)  I found a CUTE poem on Pinterest which took me to a post back in 2011 from The Techy Teacher.  You can find it HERE.  I LOVE the tally mark poem, so I copied it down and we chanted it over and over while making tally marks with popsicle sticks until my kids got it!

Target had some cute Spring puzzles at the $1 Spot.  100 pieces!!! I've done both with my kids this week during indoor recess.  Good times.

This was one of our literacy centers this week- the cubes are in the bag.  They dump them out, put them together to spell the words, and then write them in their literacy journal.  They really enjoy this.  It's fun and different.

This week in writing was all about making sure our pictures matched our words in our How To writing.  I think my favorite was How To Practice a Fire Drill.  Here's how they turned out:

And some sharing:

This is why I love my class- they would rather play "Spell It" than have free play time!  Amazing!! I have to work on a Spring version, but it will be available in my TPT store sometime next week!

Have a great weekend everyone! Head back over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday fun!

Peek at My Week- How To Ask Questions

Another Sunday means another week of plans!  Linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten (unless she is on Spring Break this week- LUCKY!) for a Peek at My Week!
Not only are we learning how to write How To pieces this month, but for the next 3 weeks we are going to be learning how to ask questions about the books we read.  I'm going to be honest- I've never been very good at teaching kinders how to ask questions.  SO this year I am changing it up!  This week we will focus on Who and What questions.  Next week we will focus on When and Where questions.  And week 3 we will focus on How and Why questions.  My kids are great at answering questions, but now it's time to start asking them!

Do you have a method that works for you?  Or any tips you can share?  I would appreciate them!

Here are the plans:

You can grab the plans HERE and the doc with the links HERE.

Have a great week, whether you are teaching or not!

Five for Friday- very random

Happy Friday everyone!  I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday!
I started my week with a snow day (in March, really?!) and then on Tuesday I had jury duty... Ugh.  While I did get reading done for my grad classes, I did not enjoy sitting around so much.  I was actually dismissed though! So that was nice!
This week we were learning about ordinal numbers.  We played a cup game where I hid a small yellow block under one of the cups and they would have to guess a cup by using the ordinal number: "Is it under the 4th cup?" They LOVED it! So we played it this afternoon and if you found the block you won a prize.  So easy to please.  BUT this afternoon's cups did not have labels- ooooo, tricky!
(please don't judge the messy table, I was folding and stapling LOTS of reading a-z books today...)
We also jumped into our How To writing unit.  It's a 4 week plan.  First week is all oral, so in these pics we are putting the steps for How To Make Lemonade in order and then retelling each other, making sure to use our vocabulary- First, Next, Then, Last.
Next week we will focus on drawing pictures to match the words that are provided.  Then they will write words to match pictures. And finally, they will write their own How To stories.  I LOVED this unit last year and I am still loving it this year!
This is our new table in our apartment!! Great price for a great table on craigslist!
We picked it up last night and then I made dinner.  When it was time to eat I got out the tv trays without even thinking about the fact that we have a table! HAHA!  We've been eating off of tv trays for 5 years!  Gonna have to break that habit.
3 weeks until Spring Break... YUP- I said 3!!

Enjoy your weekend!!  And jump back over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday fun!

Five for Sunday (?!?!) and a Peek at my Week!

Sooooo.... I'm finally getting around to posting my Five for Friday (Sunday...) and thought I would combine it with a Peek at my Week!  So I'm linking up with 2 people today!

First, I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for my Five for Frunday (yeah, that's right- Frunday).
We had our banana party on Monday, but it was a big mushy disaster!  My chocolate covered bananas got all brown and mushy gross!  Not yummy... But then we made banana hats (probably the worst craft in the world) and the kids loved that at least...

One of our Literacy centers was a rhyming center.  They did so well finding the rhyming words and then matching them and writing them in their journals!  They rocked out our post test for rhyming! YAY!

On Thursday and Friday a leprechaun visited our room and made quite a mess!!  The kids tried to pin it on me but I tricked them! :-D  It worked out really well!

On Friday the Leprechaun left a note (about the hats in #4) and some new markers for us to use! YAY!!

We decorated styrofoam cups that the leprechaun left for us and I shrunk them down today! So cute.  Some people did not understand the idea of making it look like a hat, but WHATEVER.  Still awesome!
These are the 3 I made- 1 for me, and 2 for absent friends.

These ones are all upside down...

And after shrinking:

On Friday we learned How To make a cake!  It was great.  I TOTALLY redeemed myself from the banana disaster!  The cafeteria ladies accidently let it get a little burned but it still tasted amazing! (when the kids saw it they thought it was chocolate cake, so I didn't bother correcting them...) I was so busy eating it that I forgot to take a picture of it with frosting and sprinkles... but here is it right before that! ha

AND NOW for a Peek at my Week!  Linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten!
So, I REALLY hate being out of my classroom.  Like, HATE IT!!  I'm calling a snow day tomorrow, which sucks.  We are all so OVER the snow and it's just another day we have to make up... School board is still deciding whether to tack them on to the end of the year or extend the school day...

THEN on Tuesday I go in for jury duty (NOOOOOOOOOO).  The last time that happened I was chosen and was out of school for 5 days! UGH!! So prolly not working this week at all :-(  So the plans you are seeing are in case I am not there- if I am there will be much more content!

I actually ran into school today to make sure things were set up for the week.  Unfortunately my para's table is covered with stuff to prepare... SORRY Ms. Davis!  Luckily she is MORE than capable!

Here are the plans:
