Happy Sunday! I'm finally back to posting plans and REALLY looking forward to our rhyme filled week. Linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week!
So, of course we are filling every day this week with Dr. Seuss books! There will be so much rhyming going on this week that my students will have no choice but to learn how to do it ;-) One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books that's not considered a "classic" is If I Ran The Zoo:
It's so fun to read, especially really really fast- the kids crack up! And the animals in it are really funny and interesting. This book just happens to be Kindergarten's theme for Hall Decorating this year (my idea!) and I cannot wait to show you pictures!! The animals are hilarious!
In other news- I have my first conference presentation on Friday- AHHHHH!!!
I am soooo not ready and need to prepare to talk for an hour! It's about differentiation in math- whole group, small group, and independent centers... Hoping it goes well!
Here are the plans:
Hope you have a great great week filled with rhyming fun! And send me happy thoughts on Friday ;-) Happy Teaching!!

Peek at my Week: Valentines and Conferences
Happy Sunday friends! I'm getting this done early so I'm ready for the big game tonight!! To be honest, I don't really care about either team this year... Hopefully it's a good game with good commercials and of course good food! I'm linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week!
This is going to be one busy week!! We have three half days for conferences (wednesday-friday), which smooshes up all my teaching on those days. And we have a lot to get through! We will also celebrate Valentines Day on Friday, which I just remembered so let me go fix the plans!!!!
AND I'm back! This week we are finishing up our Nonfiction Study by reading a book about arctic animals AND watching Planet Earth!! I love Planet Earth the series. They did a great job with it and we watch it every year in the Spring but it just seemed to fit so well right now.
We are also going to be learning how to add Speech Bubbles into our writing to make it more exciting. Our writing plans are a little different this year and we won't have time for it in May when we usually do it so I'm adding it in now! I LOVE reading Mo Willems books and pointing out the use of speech bubbbles and having the kids add them in. It's always so fun! We are starting with the Pigeon books and will move on to Elephant and Piggy at some point. So fun!
Here are the plans:
Enjoy the big game and hope it's a great week. Happy Teaching!

Five for Friday- finally a full week!
Happy Friday friends! I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for some Five for Friday fun!
We've had some crazy weather here! We had 6 snow days because of Snowzilla and finally went back last Friday for a 1/2 day... yeah a 1/2 day. Then we had some 60 degree days... Just the other day (wednesday I think) we had some intense fog! I walk my dog by the Potomac River every day and this is what we saw:
20 minutes later, on the way back, the fog was gone!! so strange... Sorry it that's the most boring story ever. I would be a meteorologist if I wasn't a teacher ;-)
This week we started Word Study!! I did leveled word study a couple years ago for my action research project for grad school and LOVED it! I never got to it last year, but those kids also didn't really need it. This year I thought it would benefit the kids a lot because there is such a big difference in abilities. So, I have 5 groups: beginning sounds, ending sounds, short medial vowels, beginning blends, and long vowels. The last 2 each only have 1 kid each, but I think it's going to work out really well! This week was a test week, trying to work out the schedule and the kinks. ALL the kids did great doing their final sort by themselves! WOOT!
We were finally able to finish up teen numbers and YAY!! Almost everyone gets it!! I love teaching teen numbers. I got these magnetic ten frames from Learning Resources and LOVED using them this week!
Table Olympics continued this week! I was supposed to be bringing you pictures of the medal ceremony BUT we had to skip competition today due to behavior. I couldn't believe it! But I can only repeat myself so many times before taking away something, ya know?
A pile of puppies!!!
Have a great weekend!
