Peek at my Week- How will YOU save the Earth?

Happy Sunday friends!  I'm linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week!
Last Sunday slipped away from me and I wasn't able to share the plans for a great week.  We did our annual Earth Day Rotations!!  That's where we rotate from kinder room to kinder room (there are 7 of us this year) and each teacher has a different activity planned all about the Earth.  It's wonderful fun and breaks up the monotony of the regular schedule.

This week we will continue talking about the Earth and really focus on what the students can ACTUALLY do at their young age to help protect our one and only planet.  We just happen to be watching WallE (LOVE!!) over the last 3 weeks.  Yes, I know it's taking forever but we really don't have time to be watching a movie...

BUT it has fit in quite well with our Earth Day study.  I reminded the kiddos about how they polluted the Earth so much in the movie that they had to get on a big spaceship and leave.  Then I laid down the facts for them- we don't have a giant spaceship so if we don't protect the Earth we will all die.  Sad, I know, but true. ;-)

We read a wonderful book:
This book gives great simple ways to go green!  I LOVE IT!! And the kids did too.  It sparked conversation about what they do and do not do at home.  Very cool.

Well, this week we will read In the Small Small Pond and talk about what will happen to that pond and all the animals if we don't take care of the Earth.  We will do a little water pollution experiment (will post on this later) to really drive the point home.

In math we are starting our graphing and tallying unit.  I LOVE this!! We end the 2 weeks with doing a full data collection project! (more on this later too)

Here are the plans:

On a personal note, I am asking for prayers for a family member of mine who was just diagnosed with myelodysplasia.  It's a problem with making healthy blood.  Without going into many details, if you could just say a little prayer for my family during this time that would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you all and happy teaching!

Luckily the plans were basically finished (PHEW!) and without further ado....

Did I mention that Game of Thrones is starting tonight?!?!?   Happy Teaching! (and watching!)

Peek at My Week- My Break and Spring!

Happy Sunday Friends!  I am fresh off of Spring Break and feeling good and also feeling like maybe I don't want to go back...  But it is SUNDAY so I guess I'm linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week!
So, because it's so hard to let go (hehe) I'm gonna give you a peek at my Spring Break and THEN I'll get to the plans for the week.

We went down to Folly Beach in Charleston, SC and rented a beautiful house 2 blocks from the beach:
It was WAY to big for me, the hubs, and the dog, but that's OK- it was totally worth it!! Plus my sister and her hubs and their 2 dogs stayed with us for 2 nights so it all worked out!  So every morning when I walked my dog I was able to see a beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic:
Now, I love a good sunset but I LOVE sunrise!  I know it's early but it's so worth it and it makes me very happy!  And being so close to the beach was awesome.  We found out that our dog, Allie, is definitely a beach dog!  She loved the tidal pools, the sand, the seagulls...  She had an absolute blast:
Isn't she cute!  :-)  Our biggest reason for going, besides being so close to my sister, was to go golfing! It's been so cold here in the DC area that we haven't been able to get out and practice but that was not the case in SC!!!  And we decided to play out on Kiawah Island because why not, right?  It was BEAUTIFUL!!
We played Turtle Point and saw some giant alligators! Here is one:
The hubs hit a great shot once and it went over a little ridge and so we drove up and he walked over to hit his second shot only to find his ball sitting about 2 feet from a gator...  SO we gave that one up :-(   I had a shot near the water and when I walked over to it there were 2 different things swimming around, 1 coming right at me and I got so freaked out I grabbed my ball and ran! Ridiculous!  The AMAZING thing is that I got a 99!!!! My goal this year was to break 100 and I did it on our first outing and a really nice course :-)  And it felt sooooo good!  So good:
Ha!  Don't mind the crazy smile- that's me feeling really good about my game!!

On to the work stuff I guess...

Luckily the plans were fully written BEFORE vacation began- key play on my part if I do say so myself!  This week will be about addition, subtraction, asking questions, and SPRING!!  It's finally actually feeling like spring here and I am very happy about that so we are springing it up in class this week too!  Plants and flowers and kites, oh my!  Here are the plans:

IF you are working this week I hope it goes well and IF you are on Spring Break then enjoy and soak up a little more sun for me!  Happy Teaching!
