Peek at My Week- a little preoccupied...

Happy Sunday!  I'm linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week and to share why I'm a little preoccupied.
So, yesterday was very exciting for me and the hubs because we adopted this cute thing:

Her name is Allie and she is about 2 years old.  She is a yellow lab mix, maybe some golden retriever in her.  LOVE her!!  She has been doing LOTS of sleeping, so we are not 100% sure on her personality at this point, but she is definitely a cuddler!  So I might be a little preoccupied this week and might just want to get home as fast as possible.

I am also excited about school this week.  We are starting poetry!  We will be reading poems and writing poems.  I found a great post on PreK and K Sharing about how to introduce writing poetry to kinders and it was amazing!! So I am doing it again this year.

We are also going to be learning about plants, how they grow, what they need, and their different parts.  Last year I found an awesome time lapse video on You Tube.  It shows the sprout and the root.

Here are my plans:

You can pick up my plans HERE and the file with the links HERE.

I hope you have a wonderful week!  Happy Teaching!

Five for Friday- Earth Week!

Happy Friday!  I had a great week so I am looking forward to linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday to share!

This week we celebrated Earth day with our Earth Day Rotations! All of our kinders rotated through all 8 classrooms over 2 1/2 days, doing different activities in each room.  Here are some of the activities that my kids brought back:

Top: I will go green! I will recycle.  Bottom: I will go green! I will go to the library.

EVERYONE wrote I take of the Earth because I love the Earth.  But the one on the right side wrote a heart instead of love- so cute!.

In my room, we watched the Reduce Reuse Recycle video on Brain Pop Jr (yes- I watched it 8 times and know it by heart now!!).  Then we made a class poster with ways to take care of the Earth and added our hand prints in the middle- Thank you to The First Grade Parade for this idea!!

We also made another hand print and colored a small Earth to go in the middle- Thank you to my brain for this idea!! I threw it together at the last minute and it was SOOOO cute!

To finish off the celebration, we made Planet Protector hats from Creating a Thoughtful Classroom.  Here are the kids showing off their planet protector muscles!!

So then I had to get back to actually teaching (UGH!) on Thursday and I had no plans for math SO I through together a quick geometric shape lesson, which was wonderful!!  We ended the lesson by working in groups to build something with geometric shapes.  Okay, so they aren't all real shapes, BUT it was great and fun!

These guys worked SO long on getting that bridge type piece to actually sit up top there! What determination!

So today we finished our quick geometric shape lesson by creating shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows!  They LOVED it and so did I!

I hope you had a great week!  If you stop by I would LOVE to hear from you :-) I LOVE reading comments! Have a wonderful weekend and jump back over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday!

Peek at my Week- Earth Day Rotations, Winner, and a Sale!

I'm linking up with Deedee from Mrs. Will's Kindergarten for a Peek at my Week!
So, I am just finishing up with Spring Break and REALLY don't want to go back... :-(  BUT I don't actually have to do any real teaching until Wednesday afternoon! YAY!!  Here's why:

Last year we started something called Earth Day Rotations.  (We also did it around Christmas time, you might remember).  When I was in elementary school we always did something huge with the entire school for Earth Day.  Each classroom had a different theme and you got to choose what classes to go to and learn about whatever it was.  So last year I thought- Why don't we do this with our 8 kindergarten classes?!  It was an instant success and we all loved it!! So we are doing it again.  Here is the plan: each teacher plans one activity to teach something about the Earth, recycling, plants, etc...  Then, each class visits the other 7 classes to complete each activity.  Luckily, we all have a classroom aide, and they will travel with our kiddos, which makes this super easy!

My plan:
This is from The First Grade Parade!

The winner of my 5 Spring products is Christin from Shifting Teacher K-2!  Check your email Christin!

I'm linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share my Five for Friday, which is all about what I did over Spring Break.
Most importantly!  I am hosting a giveaway! You have the chance to win 5 Spring products!  You have until Saturday night at midnight.  Click HERE to enter on the rafflecopter from my 5 for friday last week.  Good luck!
So, I found out there is an outlet mall like 15 minutes from me at National Harbor and went out there with a coworker.  Scored all of this at the J Crew Factory store for 50% off!!!  YES!! Even bought a shirt for the hubby :-)
Don't you love that polka dot dress?!
I finished this beautiful baby blanket this week for a coworker.  Baby Nora came 3 weeks early!! But even without that happening I would still be a week late...  I have already started my next one for another coworker!

It's a good thing I had so much shopping to do because this is what is going on outside my apartment...
UGH! The bulldozer is so loud and just won't stop!!!

Went and saw Divergent yesterday.  Really liked the book and the movie was pretty good, although I feel like they could have gotten someone hotter to play Four...

Hope you all had a great week!  Jump back over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday fun!!  Happy weekend!
